Happy New Year!

And happy it will be when we celebrate the next holiday in the new house!
Everyone asks when we hope to move in. Wouldn't I like to know?!!! But things are moving along.
The electrical is almost done - and could be if we would just find time to make a couple of crucial decisions! That part is tricky considering how infrequently Billy and I see one another these days.
We did spend a couple of blissful days over christmas doing absolutely nothing related to the new house! Billy stayed home and we had fun just all being together. So decisions could have been made... but they weren't. On the upside, our family is getting pretty darn good at Rock Band! : )

We passed our plumbing inspection.
The house is primed for painting, but surf's up so it's anybody's guess when we'll see our painters next.
The floor has been decided on (Cumaru - Brazilian Teak) - probably not very "green" but I'm here to tell you that being "green" when you are building a house, unfortunately, takes way more of the other kind of green than we have to spend!
The cabinets have been chosen.
The roof is almost finished and if you look at it from only the Pololu side you can pretend it IS completely done...that's what I do anyway:) Billy has this silly habit of only seeing what is actually there. That is why he does all of the worrying and stressing out in our family;)
Here is the lanai:

And the man who makes it all happen! He looks great! The only thing missing is a pair of rose colored glasses;) and maybe a good night sleep...

Hope everyone had a fantastic and joyful holiday! Here's to another amazing year!

I wrote the third post down first so it might help to start there

The huge mess currently piled under the house that needs to get cleared before the roof goes on so they have room to work.

When your eyes travel up from the mess below you see this (makai side of the house):

As it stands now - or at least yesterday - from the top of the drive:

More pics

A bit of perspective - Window trim will be white - the 3rd color is still under discussion:

Winward side primed and a test splotch of "Sherwood Green"

Mauka end of the living area with the loft up there:

We are dried in

Windows are in and the siding is on. The roof is waterproofed. The winward side of the house is primed and we have tested the paint color we are pretty sure of.
Looking into the kitchen:

Backed up from the same angle through the living area int the kitchen:

And from even further back in the living area so you can see the lanai opening too on the left:

The house has taken its shape

The house has assumed it's full shape with the addition of the trusses that run the length of the house. It looks so great and is so exciting to see it take shape! When Billy and I designed the house this roof line was our starting point - for better or worse- all interior layout decisions were based on having this outline for our place. Here is what it looks like when you are coming up from Keokea Beach park. You can see Thomas and Bradley way up on the scaffolding along the ridgeline.

Here it is from the top of driveway:

Here is the first sighting of the house that you see when you turn off the road and begin to drive along our driveway:

Another angle from the top of the driveway:

Here is a shot of the trusses running the length of the house:

This shot was taken from below the living room window that looks North to the ocean:

Oh! Were you waiting for me?

The girls' bedroom:

The entry and rafters over the lanai:

Looking into the kitchen in the corner and the 3rd bedroom that will be our office from the living room (haven't decided if it will be vaulted or if we - and when I say "we" I, of course, mean Billy:) will drop the ceiling in the kitchen. We were originally thinking drop, but it feels pretty cool vaulted even though it means lots of hassle with lighting, etc (or so I'm told....):

From the living area towards the bedrooms and up to the loft, i.e., Cyrus' room:

Now imagine you are standing just to the right of the ladder in the last pic and are turned around and looking to the other end of the living area. That is the lanai on the left under the rafters:

Living area with lanai in the left corner and kitchen in the right:

Paul and Billy fitting one of the timber framed beams into place above the entry where it opens into the living area:

The whole enchilada!

And that brings us up to date. Sorry for the delay. The house is moving right along, but so is the rest of life!

Lastest pics

Here is the overall shot from the top of the driveway:

Here is the kitchen ( the sink will be under the windows on the left and the range will be between the windows on the right, with the fridge on the wall opposite the sink. There will be an eat-at bar counter between where I am standing and the sink coming out from the sink wall so you will enter the kitchen on the right near the fridge... clear as mud - yes?!):

Here is the living room window (kitchen is to the right):

Here is what it looks like from outside (kitchen is in the corner - living room window on the right:

The front door from inside (sorry - can't get this one to rotate):

And from the outside (yes, way up there! That is the window in the master bedroon to the right of the door):

Tim was up on Sunday to help Billy out:

Sophie and Maya passed the time scaling the scaffolding:

Raising walls

No visitor is safe - Billy put his Dad and Tim to work raising a wall while they were they were on tour:

No... those clothes will never look clean again, but no one can make filthy clothes look as good as can.

visitors

Grandpa Bill and Tim and Katherine came up to see our project.

And just in time...Bill lends a hand holding up the walls:

More walls

Almost all of the walls are up. Here's the view from the top of the driveway.

And here is a view from the kitchen corner. You can see we've backfilled around the CMU wall and also that the last walls that need to go up are the kitchen wall on the ocean end and the wall between the living area and the lanai:

First "house" guests

This was the weekend that our floors were laid (several weeks ago). Carol and Terry Bennett were visiting the island from Portland and became our first house guests! I used to nanny for them and their 3 kids who are now all grown up and older than I was when I took care of them! Carol and Terry are 2 of my most favorite people - how cool that they were the first visitors in (on?) our new house!

Walls!

The walls are going up! This was last weekend (8/2)
